I recently received this email from Google:

Sexually explicit text? Somewhat profane perhaps, but I wouldn't call telling a multinational corporation to go fuck themselves "sexually explicit." The literal reading of the statement "go fuck yourself Google" does denote a sexual act but the more figurative, pragmatic and commonly understood reading of the statement connotes a request by the utterer of such a statement for Google to simply go about their business whilst leaving said utterer to his or her own. In this particular instance, the figurative meaning would require Google to have a bit more of a self deprecating sense of humor about it's corporate self.

If you actually visit www.gofuckyourselfgoogle.com, you will find a simple little site with a couple of tips about using Adsense and some links to other sites. Not much meat on the bones here. I made the site in about an hour as a joke and it gets about 100-200 hits a day: hardly an affront to a gazillion dollar multinational corporation from a site that actually promotes their flagship product. Apparently "irony" is not a part of Google's corporate culture or it's Adsense program policies.

Don't get me wrong, I like those Adsense checks every month! So I took the ads off www.gofuckyourselfgoogle.com (Google hadn't actually removed them yet). I don't want to lose the revenue from my many other "non sexually explicit" sites that provide a tidy monthly income. It would be nice if Google had more of a sense of humor about itself, but for the time being I'll be happy if a few folks see this post, poke around one of my other sites (all littered with Adsense ads BTW) and gain some insight into the irony of the situation.

I can only hope Google reads the title of this site with a more figurative eye.

Why DOES Google Suck?

Any big company will almost always invite the "Company X Sucks" response from a certain percentage of the population. Google is no different. Google sucks. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of reasons I like Google a lot. They host most of my sites on Blogger.com, they send me money every month for Adsense and I use their search engine on a daily basis.

But they still suck.

Any company with the all reaching power of Google is bound to suck in some way or another at some time or another and Google is no different. It is because of their all reaching power that they suck as much as they do. The "little guy" (that's me and probably you too) has no leverage.

You can't say to Google "Hey, you aren't treating me right so I'm going to take my business elsewhere!" Think about it, what would you say? "Go ahead, buddy. We're Google fercryinoutloud. What do we care?"

The biggest reason I think Google Sucks is PAGE RANK. I have another site that used to be a PR4 site. It is NUMBER ONE on Google for the search term I want to be known for. I get about 6000 uniques a month-not a huge amount, but enough to keep a steady revenue stream coming in for me. Google bumped me down to a PR ZERO because I do Pay Per Posts on that site. They effectively cut my Pay Per Post income by 95% with that move! Even though Pay Per Post has a new "Real Rank" system to help people who have been decimated by Google's Machiavellian page rank adjustments, most of their advertisers still use Google Page Rank as a barometer for who can accept their advertising. So Google ultimately controls my paid content-which is why I think Google Sucks.
